Kathy Hougham has been with Lakers from day one and has done everything from painting cabins to hauling gravel and was our bookkeeper for many years. Kathy now has a rewarding job with Agriculture Canada which she enjoys very much.
Co-owner Cordell Sihlis started Lakers Unlimited with Jeff and Dave Perala and has been involved in every aspect of the business from the beginning. Wintertime generally finds Cordell in the bush, trapping beavers.
Sue Sutton, who is Jeff's wife, will be celebrating nine years as head cook in 2006. An expert at preparing all-you-can-eat "home cooking" with a little extra flair (not to mention pizza that even our Chicago guests can appreciate!), she particularly enjoys preparing gourmet treats made with local delicacies like saskatoons and wild blueberries (but always makes sure we leave enough for our neighbours, the bears!). In recent years she's added fresh lake trout caviar and nori-maki sushi with lake trout roe and smoked lake trout. Sue also handles the bookkeeping.
Denny Robertson is from Tofield, Alberta. In 2004 he was invaluable as Camp Attendant. He was a big success in his first year guiding in 2005. Denny is now an apprentice electrician, but odds are good he'll be back someday.
2005 was Clayton Gunderson's first year with Lakers. He is now pursuing a career as a professional bullfighter (don't call him a clown!).
Trevor Campbell lives in La Ronge, Sask. 2005 was his first year guiding with us.
Camp Attendant Kristy Todd is from La Ronge, Sask., and is now working for an environmental consulting company.
Nevin Checkley is in the guiding program at Lakeland College in Vermilion, Alberta. 2006 is his second season.
Jeff's brother
Dave Perala
is also an owner. Taking a break from his demanding "day job" working with troubled youths, he usually comes up at the start of the year to help get camp running smoothly. Dave was our original cook and general workhorse - not an easy job in the days when all the cooking was done over an open fire. Sue credits Dave for teaching her to make bread, though unlike him she has the luxury of a propane stove!
2005 was Nick Winiewski's first season with Lakers. He attends the guiding program at Lakeland College.
