May 29, 2006 Good News! The ice has been off the lake for a couple of weeks now. Jeff is at Johnston Island today, after a few days getting things shipshape at Spring Bay - or I should say, Plane-shape, so that they could land a caravan with supplies and a quad. They had a much-anticipated fish dinner. The lake level is much lower than last year, which means good things for the pike at Spring Bay, and it should mean the trout fishing turns on early too. There are now seven staff up there, with lots of time to get ready and, more importantly, find out where the big ones are lurking. I'm heading up on a truck to Fort Smith with more guides on Thursday and can't wait to see the big lake - and the first planeload of fishermen!
cheers,
